Thy Will Be Done: Discovering God's Purpose for Your Life

Welcome to this week’s recap of Life’s Uncertain Journey’s Weekly Podcast! Our new series, Thy Will Be Done: Discovering God’s Purpose for Your Life, began with a deeply encouraging and eye-opening session about surrendering to God and aligning our lives with His divine will.

We anchored our discussion in John 6:38, where Jesus said: “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me.” This scripture sets the foundation for understanding that, like Jesus, we are called to live not for our own desires but for the purpose God has uniquely crafted for each of us.

Yet, the journey to fully surrender to God’s will is no easy feat. We explored the challenges, revelations, and promises that come with this calling.

Key Takeaways from the Podcast

1. Our Testimonies Are Kryptonite to the Enemy
Sharing our experiences of God’s faithfulness not only builds up our faith but also weakens the enemy’s hold on those who doubt. God works through ordinary people like us to reveal His extraordinary power and promises, just as He fulfilled the promise of a Savior in Genesis 3:15.

2. Surrender is a Daily Choice
True surrender isn’t a one-time act but a daily decision to submit our will to God. As we live as “living sacrifices” (Romans 12:1-2), we allow God to transform our thinking and actions, aligning our lives with His perfect will.

3. Trust God’s Plan—Even When It’s Hard
Many of us have been shaped by the “Babylonian” culture of self-reliance, making it difficult to relinquish control. Yet, God’s ways are always higher, and His plans for us are rooted in His goodness. As shared by one podcast participant, even when we don’t understand God’s directions, we can trust that His will is for our ultimate good.

4. We Are More Than Meets the Eye
As children of God, we hold dual citizenship—living on earth but seated in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). This truth calls us to rise above earthly distractions and live as representatives of His kingdom, exercising the divine privileges He’s given us.

5. God Equips Us for His Purpose
Philippians 2:13 reminds us that it is God who gives us both the desire and ability to do His will. Even when we fail, God’s Spirit within us ensures that His work will be accomplished. We are a part of His greater plan, and He never gives up on us.

6. Be Alert to the Customs and Behaviors of This World
The world is filled with distractions designed to lure us away from God’s purpose. From excessive busyness to misplaced priorities, we must guard against anything that diminishes our focus on Him. As one participant noted, “Even during our times of rest, we are still in His presence and must be ready to fulfill His assignments.”

7. God’s Discipline Is Rooted in Love
While surrendering to God’s will often feels challenging, His correction is always a sign of His love. When we resist, we create unnecessary struggles for ourselves. But when we yield, we allow Him to grow us in grace, maturity, and purpose.

8. The Fight Is Worth It
Living out God’s purpose requires perseverance and intentionality. Yet, as Jesus taught His disciples, the victory is already ours because our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Luke 10:20). This assurance gives us the confidence to fight the good fight of faith.

Encouragement for the Week

This week’s discussion reminded us that God has already prepared every step we need to fulfill His purpose. The key is yielding to Him and trusting in His power rather than our own. Whether it’s in the way we manage our time, approach relationships, or navigate challenges, we are called to seek Him first and allow His Spirit to lead. If you’re struggling in areas of surrender—whether it’s patience, finances, or trusting His timing—you’re not alone. As one participant shared, “We can’t worry and trust God at the same time.” It’s a process, but God is faithful to guide us as we submit to His will.

5-Day Devotional: Thy Will Be Done

Day 1: Surrendering to God’s Will Scripture: Romans 12:1-2
Reflection: Surrendering requires that we daily climb onto the altar as living sacrifices. This isn’t easy, but the more we yield to God, the more He transforms us.
Encouragement: Remember, God doesn’t expect you to do this in your own strength. His Spirit is within you, guiding and equipping you.
Prayer Focus: Ask for the courage to surrender completely to God’s will today.

Day 2: Trusting God’s Plan Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6
Reflection: Trust is hard when we’re used to being in control. Reflect on areas where you struggle to let go and let God.
Encouragement: Even when we resist, God lovingly redirects us. Trust His timing—it’s always perfect.
Prayer Focus: Pray for faith to trust His plans, even when they don’t align with your timeline.

Day 3: Living as Sons and Daughters of God Scripture: Ephesians 2:6
Reflection: You are seated with Christ in heavenly places! How does this truth change the way you view your daily struggles?
Encouragement: You are more than what the world sees. Embrace your identity as God’s child and live with confidence in His promises.
Prayer Focus: Thank God for the privilege of being His child and ask for strength to live out your heavenly identity.

Day 4: Overcoming Worldly Distractions Scripture: Romans 12:2
Reflection: The customs and behaviors of this world can subtly draw us away from God’s will. Reflect on any distractions in your life that need to be surrendered.
Encouragement: God’s grace covers you, but He also calls you higher. Take steps today to renew your focus on Him.
Prayer Focus: Ask God to reveal any worldly influences in your life and help you let them go.

Day 5: Walking in Purpose Scripture: Ephesians 2:10
Reflection: You were created for good works, and God has already prepared them for you. Reflect on how you can walk in those works today.
